A British/Nigerian artist-healer with a nomadic art practice using painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and words to express a sensuous exploration of metaphysical and material realities. I am physically engaged in encounters with landscape, the elements, and my making creating SENSUOUS FABRICATIONS of ENERGETIC MEMORIES.
Predominantly self-taught, I have a MA Fine Art.
My sensuous practice draws on a lifetime of moving. Moving across the UK and beyond exploring landscapes, from wild spaces of mountains and coastlines, to mining and farming communities to industrial towns and cities. Moving with energy, with colour, with rhythms of time. Moving amongst smooth spaces. Photographs, video and audio recordings initially capture glimpses of these, leading on to artworks that are energetic and textured with inclusions of found/repurposed/manufactured materials reflecting the feelings, resonance, and sensuousness of my encounters.
A refrain of sensations, sound/colour/movement, often initiated during my activities, gradually coalesces into physical and intensive making processes using materials to manipulate surface: sculpting, painting, exposing depth and opening pores like skin; creating space, worlds within worlds to be explored, to get lost and found, these spaces I go when I’m journeying.
I am a prolific maker working across several ongoing lines of enquiry concurrently and dream about making artworks on a much larger scale.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and recurrent Shingles since 2011. To help myself heal I began to do activities of long steady walking/slow running, being outdoors for many hours, freeing my mind to generate creative ideas. Predominantly self-taught, I commenced a formal arts education in 2012, graduating with a Fine Art Diploma in 2014, then a MA Fine Art (Birmingham City University) in 2016. In 2012 I also established a holistic therapy business.
I have a studio at home and work as a freelance artist/curator/healer. I am an Outside In artist, and member of their National and Midlands Artist Advisory Groups.
1st large gallery solo exhibition 2020 as winner of The Chameleon Arts Prize 2019 (Surface Gallery, Nottingham, UK). In 2022 I was a selector for HUMANITY - Outside In national biennial exhibition 2023 that toured the UK. My art is in private and corporate collections in the UK, China, Ireland and Norway.
