Experimenting with material, colour, and form I explore the transformation of flat surfaces into sculptural objects while engaging a visual vocabulary of urbanism that I developed over the years. My methodology involves the exercise of contemplating and tracing the patterns found in the city that are otherwise overlooked. I try to capture the oscillation between natural and mechanical forms and their resonance in space by bringing alive the cracks in the pavement, the assymetrical tears on the perfectly geometric architecture. The process of composing the sculptures and the pattern of my paintings is in itself reminiscent of completing a jigsaw puzzle, as I assemble the disparate elements into a mosaic of irregular shapes into the finished piece. I have started to incorporate found objects into my sculptures, dismantling and transforming materials like recycled crates thus introducing elements of the city into my artwork. One of the central aspects of my work is its transdimentionality, the temporal aspect being an active ingredient in the final product. In just minutes inspiration comes to me to create a new design and hours of methodical labour to complete a piece. I thus conceive my work as a performance crystallised in solid form. These sculptures embody the role of the affect as a non-verbal form of expression. The ephemerality of a moment's thought captured in carefully crafted substance combines my predilection for craft as an art form with an affect-based approach to self-expression.
