mixed media sculpture (galvanised wire mesh, plaster bandage, acrylic paint, and re-used swarf)
I imagined the sounding of a conch shell echoing across vast distances welcoming home or warning away; a place of shelter, of hidden depths and intriguing beauty. Working quickly and intensively using found galvanised chicken wire, eyes closed, smiling and humming. I spend time just being around the form, touching it, feeling it, turning and testing until once more into action, wrapping it, enclosing it, capturing the form into solidity. From there into painting with gestures and motifs, jabs and strokes; bronze and blue, colours of earth, sea and sky, adding motifs from memory, from feeling, from dreams.

Ije is a contemporary artist currently living in Rugby, Warwickshire. A British/Nigerian artist-healer with a nomadic art practice using painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and words to express a sensuous exploration of metaphysical and material realities. Despite challenges I am physically and mystically engaged in encounters with landscape, the elements, and my making. I encounter, touch, feel, remember, imagine, and fabricate. My sensuous practice draws on a lifetime of moving. Moving across the UK and beyond exploring landscapes, from wild spaces of mountains and coastlines, to mining and farming communities to industrial towns and cities. Moving with energy, with colour, with rhythms of time. Moving amongst smooth spaces. Photographs/video/audio recordings initially capture glimpses, leading to artworks that are energetic, often textured with inclusions of found/repurposed/manufactured materials. I am a prolific maker, working across several lines of enquiry concurrently; predominantly self-taught, I gained an MA Fine Art in 2016. I am an active Outside In artist, Ambassador and Advisory Board member.
