Features of The end of one journey is the beginning of the next:
Painted on a round canvas with striking black edges for frameless hanging, this artwork is inspired by Nigel Smith's walks through dense forests. Observing the intricate dance of insects, the play of light on leaves, and glistening streams, the painting delves into the heart of nature. Employing loose brushstrokes akin to Chinese calligraphy and layers of thin glazes for a sheen reminiscent of Renaissance techniques, Smith seeks to evoke calmness and a deep connection with nature's mysteries. Influences from Turner, Monet, and contemporary artists like Cruz Jimenez, Chu Teh Chun, and Darren Waterston are evident in this tranquil portrayal.
The artwork will be packed by Nigel Smith, and orders are typically shipped within 48 hours of being accepted.

My work lies somewhere between abstraction and naturalism. I think of them as ‘dreamscapes’—part memory, part imagination. I usually begin with images of natural elements such as flora and fauna or figurative elements. The finished works are sometimes purely abstract, sometimes more representational. The most successful ones have a mysterious, hard to read quality and a feeling of impermanence. The process is as important as the subject to me. I apply multiple layers over a long period of time, scratching and sanding back to reveal temporarily hidden elements that then inspire further marks.
