Sophie is a contemporary artist based in London. After a first degree in economics and several years in professional services, she returned to her first love of art and retrained as a painter. Her work explores what it means to be human through the medium of oil paint - she researches and delves into the realms of technology, theology and memory as part of her painting practice. These are subjects she finds intriguing because they touch our past, present and future as humans. Sophie is fascinated in the process of painting itself and how it can simultaneously represent the real and the abstract. Layering is a central part of her painting process and symbolises the complex nature of humanity. While she constructs a view that is real to her in each painting, she wants to leave room for others to interpret a story as they see fit.
