I’m Jo Vincent, and my artistic journey is deeply rooted in my personal response to the natural world. My inspiration springs from the rich and diverse landscapes of the UK, where I immerse myself in the beauty of the countryside and coastlines. Plein air painting is at the heart of my creative process, allowing me to absorb the colours, forms, and atmosphere around me. I work primarily in mixed media, combing a practice of creating plein air ink studies on fibre liner paper, followed by finish acrylic paintings on canvas, or wooden panels.
Each piece I create is an emotional imprint of a moment in nature, capturing its essence and the ever-changing life that surrounds it. My aim is to evoke the mood of moments spent meditation in nature, sharing the shifting beauty of the seasons, and the energy of ever changing the sky. Every brushstroke and fluid motion reflects my time spent fully present in these landscapes, inviting viewers to share in the stillness, beauty and mother natures medicine I experience.
Having transitioned from a 20-year career teaching art to young adults with disabilities, I now fully embrace my art practice. My work is not just about creation; it’s about sharing the healing power of art. My own experiences with a life-changing disability have deepened my understanding of the therapeutic benefits of creativity. With support from Arts Council England, I’ve developed my abstract landscape style, celebrating resilience and the calming presence of nature. I hope my work encourages others to slow down, seek beauty in their surroundings, and explore their own creativity.
