Artwork Description
_The Five Points_ represents the potential of youth using occult symbolism including the five colours of Jainism - each colour representing a value such as truthfulness - and the pentagram. The composition connects the dreaming boy figure with the landscape of the southern tablelands in New South Wales, Australia where I was raised. The red-tailed cockatoos are in fact gentle seed-eating birds although their presence in the composition can be read as sinister, even predatory. Not all in life unfolds as the young self might expect or desire, and the hopes and plans intended for the multicoloured papers may remain unwritten or become illegible to the older self.
