Artwork Description

Part of the 'Seeing Sounds: moments visualised through music' collection. A body of work where each piece is inspired by a different song. Worked on whilst listening to the music and channelling the emotions from it, each painting shows how I view, perceive and feel every individual song, creating visual representations of each track using paint on canvas.

Inspired by 'Fight for love' by Sault.

The London based collective Sault (Start A Universal Love Trend) have become so important to me creatively. They are prolific when it comes to making music, with 12 albums released in the last 6 years. So not only is the music inspiring but the abundance of work is also.

This track comes from ‘11’ my favourite Sault album. It is the most beautifully crafted, meditative song with repetitive lyrics that feel like a chant ‘how do you fight for love when the world has broken you? I know that times are rough when you’re down, keep looking up.’

For me, its a track that makes me feel grounded and centred - it allows me to get to the space that I need to be to create. And importantly it offers hope and comfort too ‘breathe, relax into it, I know what’s on your mind, give yourself some time.’ Its giving you permission to stop and be still for a moment, acknowledge how you’re feeling and really lean into it.

I wanted to capture the feeling of being in a place that feels stormy and unsettled but if you just keep looking up you know that calm will come, the turbulence will pass and things will be ok.
