In this artwork I focused on elevating both the colour and design. Brightly coloured painted houses in Brighton, England helped to inspire my next moves.
I also spent time researching into the thinking & works of the Great American Painter, Barnett Newman. His ability to find a style and voice in painting was, so powerful. He would claim “to start from scratch, to paint as if painting never existed before.”
The quote below is taken from the book titled, Barnett Newman by Thomas B. Hess, 1971, which struck a chord with my own development as an artist.
“To us art is an adventure into an unknown world, which can be explored only by those willing to take the risks” (Barnett Newman, 1942).
