The Holegné is Old English for Holly. This is a mythological creation of the spirit of winter as a floating leaf-clad head.

Twisting branches in multicolour with a background of dense black. A small band of soldiers emerge to cheer or rant at the spirit as she passes.

This painting is a nod to fairy tales and folktales we grew up with. This character is my invention but has many equivalents in mythology.
